20" x 2.5" Filter Overview Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here. Today we’re looking at 20 x 2.5 filter size category. Now, when I refer to 20 inches in length by 2 ½ inches in diameter, I’m not referring to the size of the filter housings, but rather to the cartridges that go inside of those filter housings. You see, there are literally dozens and dozens of manufacturers that produce 20 inch long by 2 ½ inch in diameter cartridges, all designed to fit into a variety of industry standard size filter housings, like the ones that you see here in front of me. What this does for you is it provides you with a number of options and a great deal of flexibility. There are dozens of types of cartridges manufactured from a variety of filter media and different types of filter housings for different applications. For example, there are polypropylene spun filters; there are pleated cellulose, carbon block, granular carbon, pleated polyester, KDF media, KDF and GAC combo filters, ion exchange media, water softening filters and a whole list of other types. And there are filter housings that are clear, and opaque, and even this red one over here is for high temperature applications. So you can see that depending on your situation you could use a particular housing as a drinking water filter, you could use one as a dedicated whole house filter or as a partial house filter, maybe filtering just the water going to a particular part of the home. You can also put these in series or in parallel for whole house applications with multi-stage filtration. There’s a great deal of flexibility and because of the large filter surface area on a typical cartridge of this size you’re not going to suffer the flow loss and pressure loss that you would from a 10 inch long 2 ½ inch diameter cartridge. Again, this is the 20 by 2 ½ filter size category, and I’m your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
