Pentek CBC-20 Carbon Filter Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here. Today weíre looking at the Pentek CBC-20. Now, this is an industry standard size cartridge, approximately 20 inches long by 2 Ĺ inches in diameter, which means itís going to fit into a vast array of industry standard size filter housings, like the one you see here. Now, the CBC-20 is a 0.5 micron carbon block. It is NSF Standard 42 certified for materials and itís 100% FDA approved. It can be used in high temperature applications up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, but if you do that you canít use a regular filter housing like you see here, you need a special high temperature filter housing. Now, Pentek internal testing has certified this filter to reduce 99.5% of microorganisms like cryptosporidium and giardia. So, this filter is a very high quality, very dense carbon block. Because of that dense porosity, it has an extremely long life. Pentek internal testing says up to 45,000 gallons of chlorine taste and odor reduction. And, of course, activated carbon will remove a long list of organic and inorganic contaminants that you simply donít want in your drinking water. Now, Pentek has been really thoughtful, knowing that this is a 0.5 micron carbon block; they wrapped the entire outside of the cartridge with their Endurawrap. Itís a polyolefin bi-laminate that captures sediment on the outside, not allowing it to imbed itself in the carbon block because that will cause the carbon to become clogged before itís truly exhausted. And this is something that you should be aware of; a 0.5 micron carbon block will require some kind of pre-filtering. If you put this filter in alone, that tight porosity will capture everything, and itís very likely the filter will clog before the carbon is truly exhausted. I strongly recommend a 5 or a 25 micron filter before you go to the CBC 0.5 micron, because itís so dense, it will just capture everything. You need to remove the large particles out of the water before the water gets to this filter. Again, this is the Pentek CBC-20, a 0.5 micron carbon block, and Iím your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
