Pentek CRFC-BB Chloramine Filter Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com. Today weíre looking at the Pentek CRFC-BB. This is an industry standard size cartridge, approximately 10 inches long by 4 Ĺ inches in diameter, which means itís going to fit into a whole selection of industry standard size filter housings, like for example, the popular Pentek HD-950 that you see here. Now, the CRFC-BB is a radial flow, granular activated, catalyzed carbon specialty filter; designed specifically to reduce chloramines. Now, first let me explain radial flow. Radial flow means the entire outer surface area is penetrable by the water. Water passes through the outer surface area to the center and out through the top. This is different than many axial flow type granular activated carbon cartridges, which cause tremendous pressure loss. You wonít have pressure loss and flow restriction problems with this cartridge. Now, a word about chloramines; chloramines are a nasty by product of the combination of chlorine and ammonia. You see; most municipal water treatment plants in the United States use chlorine alone to kill microorganisms in your water. But some are no longer able to effectively kill all the microorganisms with chlorine alone so they add ammonia also. Unfortunately, when ammonia and chlorine make friends, they make chloramines, which are a nasty cancer causing contaminant. If you have those in your area, youíre probably aware of it because your municipal water supply has probably made public notice that there are chloramines in the water, because theyíre really nasty. Now, chloramines take a special type of carbon, a catalytic carbon, and thatís whatís in the CRFC-BB. Itís a special carbon, designed specifically to reduce those chloramines. Now filter life is very difficult, as usual, to estimate because itís going to depend on your unique circumstances, but you count on approximately 12,000 gallons of chloramine reduction with this filter. And itís wise to pre-filter with a sediment filter to stop sediment from clogging this carbon filter before the carbon is truly exhausted. If you simply use this filter alone, it may become clogged with sediment before the carbon is really dead inside. Again, this is the Pentek CRFC-BB, a radial flow, granular activated, catalyzed carbon, designed for chloramine reduction. Iím your host Aquaman with FilterDoctor.com. Hereís to a cold drink of water you can trust.
