Pentek ChlorPlus-10 Catalytic Carbon Block Video Transcript
Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com. Today weíre looking at the Pentek ChlorPlus-10.
This is an industry standard size cartridge, approximately 10 inches long by 2 Ĺ inches in diameter, which means itís going to fit into a vast array of industry standard size filter housings, like for example, the popular Pentek 158642 that you see here.
Now, the ChlorPlus-10 is a 1 micron, catalyzed carbon block. Now, catalyzed carbon is uniquely designed to remove chloramines. Chloramines are the by-product of the combination of chlorine and ammonia. You see, many municipal treatment plants across the nation are no longer effectively killing all of the microorganisms with chlorine alone, so they add ammonia. And when chlorine and ammonia make friends, the by-product of chloramines is created. And, unfortunately, it is a nasty by-product; proven to cause cancer, and something that you definitely do not want in your drinking water.
And, you see, regular carbon does not remove chloramines, so you need catalyzed carbon to reduce chloramines if you have them.
Filter life is amazing if all youíre removing is chlorine; itís good for 50,000 gallons. But you probably bought this specialty filter to remove chloramines, and therefore itís only good for about 2,500 gallons; so, significantly less when dealing with chloramines, because itís such a nasty contaminant.
Again, this is the Pentek ChlorPlus-10, a catalyzed carbon filter designed to remove chloramines.
