Pentek P5 Sediment Filter Video

Welcome to the Pentek P5 Sediment Filter Video Page. The Pentek P-5 filter is a 5 micron extra-fine sediment water filter cartridge made of spun bonded-polypropylene. It will reduce extra-fine dirt, sand, sediment, silt, rust particles, and scale particles and is resistant to chemicals and corrosion. The Pentek P5 filter cartridge is designed for purity, bacteria resistance, and chemical resistance. The Pentek P-5 replacement water filter will not impart taste, odor or color to the liquid being filtered when used within the recommended temperature limit. It can be used on chlorinated or non-chlorinated water supplies. The P5 water filter cartridge fits in whole house water filter systems and reverse osmosis systems.

The following Culligan models can use the Pentek P5 filter cartridge: HF-150, HF-160, HF-360, HF-365, RO-2127. The following Ametek, USFilter, and Plymouth Products models can use the Pentek P5 sediment filter cartridge: #10 Blue, #10 Clear. Pentek P5 Sediment Filter Video Transcript

Welcome to Water Wisdom sponsored by WaterFilters.NET. I’m your host Aquaman and today’s video is about the Pentek P5. The Pentek P5 is an industry standard size cartridge. By that we mean it’s not a unique proprietary size. It’s an industry standard size, and there are many, many thousands of cartridges manufactured this size, and many more thousands of filter housing that receive this size cartridge. It falls into the category known as the ten inch by two and a half inch referring to its ten inch length and two and a half inch diameter. As I indicated it’s an industry standard size, so it’s going to fit into a vast array of filter housings. It’s manufactured from a polypropylene material and its called polypropylene spun. The difference between this and filters that are also commonly used that appear to be a spool of string is the polypropylene string wound, the polypropylene is woven into a string first and then spooled onto a cartridge. Whereas the poly spun, the polypropylene is shot out of a gun like cotton candy and spun into the form of a cartridge. This is known as a depth filter, because the contaminants will capture throughout the depth of the media. In other words, it’s not just about the outside surface area of this filter. Smaller contaminants will make their way through the media and at a certain point they will be stopped, because the media becomes quite dense in the middle. This filter is rated at 5 microns which is approximately five times smaller than a speck of milled flour. The most common application for this filter is in well water, because polypropylene is bacteriostatic, meaning the media cannot sustain life of bacteria. Bacteria cannot live and grow on this media. They will become trapped here and they will find no sustenance. Unlike say a pleated cellulose filter which would actually provide them with a food source and make a very happy dwelling place for most bacteria. Not the case with polypropylene spun. So well water, being untreated and always having the potential for microorganisms could provide bacteria to this filter, but the bacteria will not be able to live here. Great little filter, very commonly used in well water application, though it could also be used on municipal water. It’s going to have a very high loading capacity because the media will trap particulate all the way through. It’s just a sediment filter; it’s only removing particulate from the water, nothing more and nothing less. That is the Pentek P5. I’m your host Aquaman, and thanks for watching!
