Pentek RFC-20 Carbon Filter Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here. Today we’re looking at the Pentek RFC-20. Now, this is an industry standard size cartridge, approximately 20 inches long by 2 ½ inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit into a vast selection of industry standard size filter housings, like for example the one that you see here.

The RFC-20 is a 25 micron, radial flow carbon filter. This radial flow design is far superior to other granular activated carbon filters that utilize an axial flow design. You see, the radial flow design will not have the pressure loss and flow restriction like an axial flow, for example the GAC-20. If you’ve used that filter in the past in a whole house filter system you’ve probably experienced some serious pressure loss. You won’t have that problem with the RFC. The entire outer surface area is penetrable by water, making for much better flow rates and with an equivalent removal of contaminants to the GAC-20.

Now, Pentek internal testing certifies that this filter has an approximate life of 6,000 gallons for chlorine taste and odor reduction, and of course, the granular activated carbon that is sandwiched between two layers of polypropylene can remove a long list of organic and inorganic contaminants, things that you don’t really don’t want in your water. The polypropylene layer on the outside will capture sediment up to 25 microns in size, which is about the size of a speck of milled flour. So it’s really a dual purpose cartridge, capturing both large particle sediment and removing those contaminants that granular activated carbon captures. Again, this is the Pentek RFC-20, a radial flow carbon filter that will not cause flow loss and pressure loss. I’m your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
