Doulton W9220402 Sterasyl OBE Ceramic Filter Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here. Today we’re looking at the Doulton W9220402. This is the Sterasyl OBE Ceramic Filter element. The OBE is an acronym that stands for ‘open both ends,’ and as you can see this element is open on both ends. That’s because it’s designed to fit into industry standard size drinking water filter housings, like for example the popular Culligan HF-360. So it fits into standard housings that take 10 inch by 2 ½ inch diameter filter cartridges. Now, of course, this filter features Doulton’s standard ceramic technology with imbedded silver. Make a note here, this is not silver impregnating. The imbedding process is superior to impregnating because it will not allow the silver to escape and get into your drinking water. And you want the silver there, because it causes the filter to be self-sterilizing and bacteriostatic so that microorganisms cannot live and grow on this filter media. Now, this filter cartridge is just a ceramic element. Perhaps the greatest feature of it is the reusability factor; it can be washed and reused up to fifty times. Now, of course that’s going to depend a lot on how rough you are when you clean it. But assuming you’re gentle, you can get up to fifty reuses from this filter element. Simply remove it from the housing and then under running water, scrub it with a green Scotchbrite until it returns to its’ original creamy white color, then reinstall and your back in business. And this filter will do a great job of capturing the kinds of sediment particles and microorganisms that you do not want in your drinking water. It’s NSF Standard 42 certified for materials, and NSF Standard 53 certified for the reduction of microbial cysts. It filters down to 0.9 microns with absolute filtration; which gives you 99.99% reduction of microbial cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia and 99.99% reduction of pathogenic bacteria like salmonella, e coli and cholera. And not only is the filter NSF Standard 42 and 53 certified, but Doulton is an ISO 9001 certified organization. This means they need to maintain extremely high standards in their manufacturing process. Not everybody gets to be an ISO 9001 certified organization, and it really separates Doulton from the pack in terms of quality product. Now, determining filter life is difficult because it’s going to depend on how rough you are on the cleaning process and, of course, how often you clean it; but approximately fifty reuses. No matter how you slice it, that’s a very long time and will certainly outlast your typical sediment filter. Again, this is the Doulton W9220402, the Sterasyl OBE ceramic filter element, and I’m your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
