Katadyn 8013618 Pocket Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com. Today we’re looking at the Katadyn 8013618. This is the Katadyn Pocket, an easy to use hand pump filter system designed specifically for outdoorsy people who are drawing water out of potentially dangerous sources. It features a 0.2 micron, silver impregnated ceramic filter element. The silver impregnating makes the element bacteriostatic, meaning that microorganisms cannot live and grow on the filter media. And with a 0.2 micron porosity this filter has passed the EPA Standard for microbiological water purification. It will remove 99.99% of microbial cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia, pathogenic bacteria like salmonella, e coli, and cholera, and even viruses. And filter life is extremely long. You can wash and reuse the ceramic filter cartridge many many times. They estimate 13,000 gallons of filter life. Let me show you how easy it is to get at this filter element to clean it. First unscrew the top and remove the pump. Now, unscrew the base, and there is your ceramic filter element. Then take a green Scotchbrite under running water and wash the entire outer surface, then reinstall, and your back in business. Now eventually the filter is going to become so thin, because a small amount of material is going to be removed every time you clean it, that you’ll need to replace the element. You can judge that by using this tool. When this tool can go over the filter, it’s so thin that it needs to be replaced. Simply reinstall, back in the top, replace the base, put the pump back in, attach the top, and we’re back in business. Now, Katadyn has provided a replacement O-ring for the pump and food grade silicone grease, which is also used on that O-ring on that pump glide. They’ve obviously supplied this water line for your source water, which has a float, and a weight, and a strainer. The strainer is going to capture large particles so that your filter element doesn’t become clogged with those large particles that are in your source water. Simply put that in your source water, attach it to the inlet side of the Pocket, and then use the outlet hose and attach it to whatever vessel you’re filling. Maybe you’re pumping into a water bottle, a hydration pack, or a large vessel to carry a large amount of water. Whatever the case may be, the Pocket is going to filter that water, remove microbial cysts and microorganisms and make it safe for you to drink. This is the Katadyn 8013618, the Pocket, and I’m your host Aquaman with FilterDoctor.com. Thanks for watching.
