Pentek S1-20 Pleated Sediment Filter Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here. Today we’re looking at the Pentek S1-20. Now, the S1-20 is an industry standard size filter, approximately 20 inches in length by 2 ½ inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit into a vast selection of industry standard size filter housings, like for example the one that you see here.

Now, the S1-20 is a 20 micron, resin bonded pleated cellulose sediment filter. The resin bonding process increases the strength of the cellulose and this cartridge also features an outer plastic netted sheath, that I will zoom in here in a moment and show you what that looks like. That’s there to increase the durability and keep the pleats in a nice straight order. If pleats become scrunched together, then you reduce flow and you have pressure loss. That won’t be a problem with the S1-20. Now, because it is a cellulose media it’s not appropriate for untreated water sources. So only use this filter on water that’s been chlorinated, ozonated, uv’ed or that you’re otherwise confident does not have microorganisms living and growing in it.

Now, concerning filter life, like most sediment filters, this is difficult to estimate because it depends entirely on your unique circumstances. If you have a heavy load of sediment or you use a great deal of water, you will certainly go through cartridges faster than someone who doesn’t have either of those conditions. The best way to determine filter life is simply to install one and use it. Pay attention to filter life and then make a note of the number of gallons or the amount of time that the filter lasts. Then next time you’ll have a reference point for a new filter cartridge. Again, this is the Pentek S1-20, a 20 micron, resin bonded pleated cellulose sediment filter. I’m your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
