Water described as "hard" is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium. Hard water is not a health risk, but a nuisance because of mineral buildup on fixtures and poor soap and/or detergent performance. Magnesium is commonly found in rocks such as granite, sandstone, limestone and dolomites. High levels can contribute to the hardness of water and inhibit the performance of pipes and water heaters.
The recommended treatment method for magnesium is a Water Softener.
